Dad’s Name Should Not Have Been Published

Family First NZ is slamming the Police and the Dominion Post for releasing and publishing the name of a father who pleaded guilty to common assault for pushing his son on to a rugby field to play.

“It seems incredible that rapists, murderers and pedophiles get name suppression but a dad who is likely to be discharged without conviction has his name splashed across the newspapers and internet,” says Bob McCoskrie, National Director of Family First NZ.

“Not only does the case show the problems with the anti-smacking law and the application of “inconsequential”and what is in the public interest to prosecute, but it shows a complete disregard for the welfare of this family who even CYF agree are a good family.”

“Once again, we target good families with the trauma of an investigation, prosecution and public vilification, while ignoring the rotten parents who abuse their children day in and day out.”

Family First is encouraging NZ’ers to vote NO in the upcoming Referendum and demand that the politicians protect good parents raising great kids and target the real causes of child abuse.
