Access to Justice for our Diverse Communities

Community Law Centres meet to discuss “Access to Justice for our Diverse Communities”

Minister of Justice to attend powhiri Wednesday 21 Oct at 9-45am

Community Law Centres from across New Zealand gather tomorrow at Manurewa Marae to discuss the future of community legal service at a three day hui entitled: “Access to Justice for our Diverse Communities”

The hui is being organised by Community Law Centres from Auckland and Northland. Nicola Owen, a member of the organising team and Development Manager for Auckland Disability Law, said.

“In a year when Community Law centres were facing up to 70% funding cuts and Legal Aid is under review, it is essential that we focus on communities and people who don’t have equal access to justice. Our hui is intended to share what we have learned about serving the vibrant and diverse communities in our region, but also to remember that access to justice should be a right for all.”

Hon Simon Power MP is expected to speak after the powhiri tomorrow morning.
Powhiri at 9-45am, Manurewa Marae, 81 Finlayson Avenue, Clendon
The event runs from Wed 21 – Fri 23 October.

Guest speakers include: Lianne Dalziel MP, Legal Services Agency, Ministry of Justice, Kerry Dalton CE of CAB, Judge Joyce, Deaf Aotearoa, Mental Health Foundation, YouthLaw, Language Line, Disputes Resolution Service Limited, Effective Governance Ltd, Philip Patston
