Why are councillors not attending meetings?

Why are councillors not attending vital council meetings for which they receive substantial ratepayer-funded salaries?

North Shore Mayor Andrew Williams has just issued a strongly-worded press release attacking city councillor Chris Darby for ‘collapsing a quorum’ at a meeting today.

A quorum consists of half the elected members of council, 15 plus the Mayor, giving a total of 16.

Instead of playing politics with councillor Darby the Mayor should be asking where were the other eight missing councillors.

North Shore City Council has a shocking record of councillor attendance and it should be the Mayors job to remind all councillors that they are paid by ratepayers to attend all meetings unless there is good reason not to attend.
