Epsom Candidate Contest

This morning, five members of the New Zealand National Party were confirmed as candidates for the party nomination in the Epsom Electorate. This follows candidate interviews at a meeting today of the Epsom pre-selection committee chaired by Electorate Chair Tom Bowden.

The five candidates will now proceed to the final selection. They will have the opportunity to campaign amongst the 60 local party delegates who will vote on 18 July 2011, to determine the Epsom National Party candidate in the General Election.

Tom Bowden stated, “It is great to see such high-calibre potential candidates coming forward. The National Party has a robust selection process and I’m confident our local delegates will choose the best person for the job.”

The five people confirmed today are:

Aaron Bhatnagar
Paul Goldsmith
Denise Krum
Ewen McQueen
Richard Simpson

The successful candidate will be announced on 18 July 2011.

Reporters note: National Party rules prevent those seeking nomination from commenting to the media.
