The New Zealand Coalition to End Homelessness (NZCEH) supports the move to push for registration of Boarding Houses

The NZCEH supports the Green Party MP, Garth Hughes’ move to push for registration of Boarding Houses and to clean up the Boarding Housing Sector.

Iris Pahau, Co-Chair of the Coalition said in Wellington today that the focus of MPs on boarding houses is applauded. Registering boarding houses is the first step to ensuring that the most vulnerable will get a better deal. There are some responsible boarding home owners who would meet registration regulations straight away; there are others who would need assistance and there are others who would deliberately avoid meeting the regulations – those are the Boarding Houses that need to be closed down.

Corie Haddock, Co-Chair of the Coalition reiterated that good stable housing is the first steps to helping the homeless and the marginalised people in our communities. We want to work with these landlords to help stabilise our most vulnerable people - we can help them become responsible tenants for those responsible landlords.
