Lower Hutt Graffiti Bill Being Submitted To Parliament
A Hutt City Council (Graffiti Removal) Bill 2011 being promoted as a local bill to Parliament is one strand in a city-wide strategy to get on top of graffiti, says Mayor Ray Wallace.
“We have made good progress in reducing graffiti across the city but it is a broad strategy that includes persistence in ensuring tags in public places are eliminated as quickly as possible.
“The purpose of the Bill is to allow Hutt City Council to remove graffiti that is on private property and visible from a public place. Often unsightly graffiti remains untouched.
“If successful, the Bill will enable us to go in and clean it up,” he said.
“The Bill will be one component of our anti graffiti tool kit.”
“Our city has an image as a place of flowers and gardens and we want to reduce the negative aspects of graffiti across the city,” he said.
The Bill is currently being publicly notified.
