Talley's Affco Employment Court Case Postponed
Today's union employment court hearing on the legality of the Talley's Affco lockout has been postponed by Cheif Judge Graeme Colgan .
Meat Workers Union general secretary Dave Eastlake says the court is concerned not all of the evidence would be heard today and tomorrow.
The union filed for an urgent injunction this morning and expects a hearing date to be announced later today, he says.
Mr Eastlake says if the injunction was granted, it would apply from the hearing of the injunction until the matter was fully heard by the employment court.
“For a lockout to be lawful, it must be around bargaining claims,” he says. “Talley's AFFCO made it clear their initial lockout was to punish workers for taking court action to protect existing work conditions the company was ignoring. Talley's doesn't genuinely want a collective agreement and has been actively undermining bargaining by approaching individuals to leave the union.”
