Minister of Correction congratulated on bold vision
“We have known for many years that two thirds of prisoners
have drug addiction problems, and that up to 90 per cent
can’t read or write and yet prisons were expected to be
the one-stop-shop for all social failings.”

Minister of
Correction congratulated on bold vision
The Sensible Sentencing Trust is congratulating
the Minister of Corrections on the announcement on reducing
crime by 25% by 2017.
Trust Spokesman, Garth McVicar said the so-called Corrections Department to date had done anything but ‘correct’ – “it was a complete misnomer and the Dept seemed to have become an assembly line for mass producing criminals.”
“The situation had become so pitiful we had even produced our own cartoon of a revolving prison door which was in fact very close to the truth. We felt the only way to create less victims and keep the community safe was to keep the offenders locked out of harms way.”
“We have known for many years that two thirds of prisoners have drug addiction problems, and that up to 90 per cent can’t read or write and yet prisons were expected to be the one-stop-shop for all social failings.”
“But this announcement from Minister Anne Tolley outlines a comprehensive program to break the cycle of offending and actually sets a target of reducing reoffending by 25% with 18,500 fewer victims by 2017.”
“That’s a pretty bold statement in anybody’s language and we wish the Minister luck.”
