Southlanders for Life

MEDIA RELEASE – Southlanders for Life – 19 October 2012

A meeting was held last night in Invercargill of the prolife group “Southlanders for Life” to plan what prolife activities it will support in the future: The group was formed in May this year with the purpose to strongly object to the Southern District Health Board’s plan to start performing abortions at Southland Hospital.

It is with great sadness that the media revealed this week that the Southern District Health Board had secretly opened its planed abortion clinic after the Board refused to carry out any consultation with the community on the significant change to this new service now being provided locally.

In light of this unfortunate development Southlanders for Life have committed to on-going action and community awareness by planning a “Silent Witness” that will begin before the end of the year in Invercargill. Those in the local community who also support the prolife message are welcome to join in this campaign.

At the meeting Southlanders for Life also reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful action respecting the life and human rights of all people born and unborn in the following motion which was passed unopposed: We are a pro-life, peaceful and non-violent group which advocates non-violence to all people including the unborn and those with different views.
