The Environmental Protection Authority is inviting people to share their views on an application to import an insecticide that contains acetamiprid, a neonicotinoid.
The applicant, Everris Australia, wants to import Crown 225SL, which is used as a spray to control a wide range of insect pests on ornamental plants.
Crown 225SL is intended for use by professionals only, and the application says it will be labelled and distributed accordingly.
The application notes the product can pose a risk to human health and the environment.
It says the active ingredient, acetamiprid, is less toxic to bees than alternative organophosphate-based insecticides and alternative neonicotinoids.
