FURIOUS! Sexual Groomer Permitted to Supervise Girls

FURIOUS! Sexual Groomer Permitted to Supervise Girls

09/04/2014

Sensible Sentencing Trust is outraged that a man convicted of sexually grooming a 12 year old girl only 18 months ago was appointed to referee and supervise a girls football and softball game.

“This is absolutely horrific!” Nadia Crighton Spokesperson for the Prevention of Child Abuse says.

“It is unbelievable that neither organization believes that this man is a risk to the children he was supervising, I’m sure the parents of the girls he was monitoring will beg to differ.”

Kevin Dean McMillan was found guilty of grooming the 12-year-old in August 2012, when he was 19. He only avoided prison because the judge worried he would be "regularly assaulted ... in a variety of extremely unpleasant ways by other inmates".

“Once again, the justice system has let our children down by worrying more about the prisoners ‘risks’ than that of the community.”

SST is calling for better vetting services by all groups associated with children. “This case is rather disturbing because according to McMillan both associations were aware of this offending,” Crighton says.

McMillan is also present on the SST offenders’ database. “He’s looking for a second chance, but what about this victim? I highly doubt she has been able to move on only 18months after the sexual grooming.”

McMillan's file on the SST offenders’ database is here:
