Independent Forestry Safety Review Panel saddened by recent death
The Independent Forestry Safety Review Panel was saddened to hear of the death of a Wakefield man crushed by a log while doing maintenance work. “We extend our sympathies to his family, friends and community” Panel Chair George Adams said.
Mr Adams said, “This accident is a deeply regrettable reminder of how dangerous felling trees and dealing with cut logs can be. Although we don't know the circumstances of this tragedy we urge people undertaking tasks involving logs to exercise extreme caution and to be mindful of the risks.”
The Panel released a consultation document on safety in the forestry sector yesterday. Panel members are encouraging everyone with an interest in the issue to make a submission. The document can be accessed at www.ifsr.co.nz
