Napier Council Ignored the Warnings of Omnishambles
Responding to Radio New Zealand’s report that Napier City Councillors were warned that visitor number estimates were completely wrong - but the Council went ahead with the $18 million project anyway, Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers’ Union says:
“This is a Council that is so incompetent, it built a new museum with too little storage space to house its existing collection. It’s squabbled with the Hastings District Council on who knew what and when, and now instead of getting to the bottom of what went wrong, it’s trying to sweep the problems under the rug."
“We find it astonishing that Council chief executive Wayne Jack told Radio New Zealand that he is not interested in holding anyone accountable. Why not? If NapierMuseum’s omnishambles and $2 million per year in losses for Napier ratepayers isn’t enough for heads to roll, what is?”
