Privacy Commissioner’s naming policy

28 November 2014

Privacy Commissioner’s naming policy

Following a period of public consultation, the Privacy Commissioner is implementing a new policy on naming agencies that are in breach of the Privacy Act. The change takes effect on 1 December 2014.

The decision to more routinely consider 'naming names' is based on a view that in certain circumstances the objectives of the Act are served by revealing the identity of organisations that have breached the law.

The Privacy Commissioner’s Naming Agencies in Public Reports policy can be found here.
