Platform joins the chorus for Government to move with speed on new report

Platform Trust has joined the chorus of organisations calling on the Government to implement the Productivity Commission’s More Effective Social Services report recommendations with speed.

“Platform has campaigned for fair funding for many years and we’re pleased to see the report recommending that fully funded social service payments to non-government providers should be set at a level that allows an efficient provider to make a sustainable return on resources,” said Marion Blake, CEO of Platform Trust.

The trust is a national network of more than 70 non-government organisations that provide a wide range of services to some of New Zealand’s most vulnerable citizens many who live with mental health and addiction issues.

“Our members work with some of the most disadvantaged New Zealanders. Implementing the recommendations in this report could significantly improve the lives of the people our members work with. Platform will be meeting with DHBs and other government funding agencies to look at how we can implement this recommendation.”

Platform’s Fair Funding campaign was launched in 2014 to re-establish an equitable funding system for NGOs that were unable to provide support people needed due to a lack of additional funding to offset cost increases, inconsistent pricing of services across the country and an overly bureaucratic contracting system. All of which are issues the Productivity Commission report addresses.
