Wāhine Toa welcomes Law Commission recommendations

Women’s Self Defence Network Wāhine Toa welcomes Law Commission recommendations about self defence and family violence.

The Women’s Self Defence Network Wāhine Toa says the Law Commission’s proposals to change the law around self defence for victims of family violence make good sense.

“Our self defence teachers around New Zealand have responded enthusiastically to the announced proposed changes” says spokesperson Alison Broad. “We frequently hear concerns from women and girls about how far the law will back them in their endeavours to keep safe from violence and abuse. These changes will align the law more closely with the realities of family violence. The proposed changes will also contribute to strengthening the public stand against family violence.”
