Pastry House strike into third day

E tū members at Pastry House in Manukau City have taken a third day of strike action today in support of their pay claims.

Members decided to extend their original two-day strike after their employer refused to consider a better pay offer.

The company has offered 1.5% a year for two years, which is not acceptable to members who believe Pastry House can pay more. They also want a one-year term.

Pastry House, which is owned by Australian giant, Allied Mills is doing very well, after securing two massive key supply contracts – which means more work for members and greater profits for the company.

E tū organiser, Alvy Tata says with the firm expanding, it can afford to pay more.

E tū lead organiser, Les Waimotu says the members, who are mainly migrant women, are standing staunch, and are prepared to take further action to support their pay claims.

Meanwhile, Pastry House is using temp workers to do the work of striking members, which is illegal.

E tū’s legal team has written to the company, informing them of this and ordering them to cease and desist.
