Michael Wood calls on Parmjeet Parmar to come clean

Michael Wood calls on Parmjeet Parmar to come clean on whether she supports Labour’s plan for light rail on the Auckland Isthmus

Labour’s Mt Roskill candidate Michael Wood is calling on National’s candidate Parmjeet Parmar to come clean on whether she supports Labour’s plan for light rail on the Auckland Isthmus.

“I’m calling on her to put party politics to one side and support this plan to help fix the traffic in Roskill. My opponent should say publicly whether she supports light rail, or whether she stands with Steven Joyce, who has rubbished the idea.”

“Light rail will deliver massive benefits to the residents of Mt Roskill, finally giving them a modern transport service. If my opponent doesn’t support that, I think the people of Mt Roskill would like to know. We need to fix the traffic in Roskill, and it’s important that our community knows which candidates support real solutions”, says Mt Roskill Labour candidate Michael Wood.

“I was very pleased the Labour party committed to bring forward light rail down Dominion Road to the CBD, which will revitalise our local town centres and help reduce congestion.”

“As someone who catches the 267 bus into town regularly, I know how important light rail will be for making everyone’s commutes both quicker and more comfortable. Our bus network is at capacity and modern light rail will make sure that we aren’t all stuck waiting in traffic for over 40 minutes during our morning commute.”

“Light rail will revolutionise transport across Auckland. The Government and Auckland Council have already agreed to mass transit down Dominion Road in the ATAP plan.”

“The people in Auckland are desperate for action on our ever-increasing congestion. The journey from Mt Roskill to the CBD has increased by 10 minutes in the last three years alone. We cannot wait.”

“However, the National Party candidate has not made her position clear on this project. This is a chance for all the candidates in this by-election to do what’s best for our community and commit to fixing traffic in Roskill.”
