Women’s Refuge commends funding boost

Women’s Refuge commends funding boost for Christchurch family violence pilot

8th February 2017

Women’s Refuge welcomes the announcement today from Minister’s Adams and Tolley of additional funding and support for frontline services participating in the Christchurch Integrated Safety Response pilot.

"While we are yet to see the details of what this means for advocacy agencies, we are pleased that the Ministers have acknowledged sector capacity concerns and are making significant moves to address these,” says Women’s Refuge Chief Executive Dr Ang Jury.

“A collaborative approach is key to keeping women and children safe, however agencies, especially NGOs, must be adequately resourced if the potential of the Christchurch pilot is to be fully realised. We are heartened by their move to prioritise this need”.

The additional funding will boost frontline services, such as advocates to work with families, and will create extra places in programmes that help perpetrators change their behaviour. The ISR process, a cross agency collaborative model aimed at reducing family violence has been developed by the Ministerial Family and Sexual Violence Work Programme and is currently being trialled in Canterbury and Waikato.
