Te reo Māori support in Te Tai Hau-ā-uru will be relevant and build enthusiasm

Te Mātāwai in partnership with the Te Tai Hau-ā-uru Pae Motuhake wishes to advise the opening of the Te Tai Hau-ā-uru te reo Māori investment round that will focus on engagement across multiple generations.

The investment round is now open and it will close at 5pm on Friday 23 March 2018. “One of Te Mātāwai’s statutory functions is to deliver initiatives and programmes that contributes to the implementation of the Maihi Māori Strategy,” says Te Atarangi Whiu, Te Mātāwai Tumu Whakarae.

“The Te Tai Hau-ā-uru investment plan aligns with our Maihi Māori Strategy and it prioritises te reo Māori revitalisation initiatives specific for Te Tai Hau-ā-uru and this is great news for te reo Māori,” she says.

The Te Tai Hau-ā-uru investment plan developed by the Pae Motuhake has a number of outcomes to support and grow te reo Māori in the region.

“We want to increase reo use in the home by whānau and to increase reo use in daily life by our communities just to name two of our outcomes,” says Ruakere Hond, Te Mātāwai board member for Te Tai Hau-ā-uru.

“It is an exciting time for te reo Māori in our rohe as we strive to restore our dialects as a nurturing first language throughout our communities,” says Mr Hond.
