Max Harris: Reclaiming an Independent Foreign Policy 31 May

Max Harris - Reclaiming an Independent Foreign Policy

31 May - AKL

New Zealand has drifted from its commitment to independent foreign policy in recent years. This talk explains that recent history - and sets out the elements of an effective, independent foreign policy. It then makes some practical suggestions about new directions for New Zealand foreign policy. The overall aim is to emphasise that a values-based vision for New Zealand's place in the world is a key part of a progressive agenda for government.

Max Harris is currently undertaking a doctorate in constitutional law at Oxford. He completed his BA/LLB with honours in 2011 and was awarded a Rhodes scholarship in the same year. He has clerked for Chief Justice Sian Elias at the Supreme Court, spent time working for Helen Clark at the United Nations, had a short stint at the American Civil Liberties Union and spent time in South Australia as a speechwriting intern for the state government.
