At the party conference in Christchurch this weekend,
delegates voted to reclaim the name under which the Party
achieved 21 percent of the nation wide vote at its
peak.
The conference voted overwhelmingly to campaign
under the name Social Credit.
Following the resignation of
the leader, Stephnie de Ruyter, the conference voted for a
new leader.
He is Chris Leitch, who was the party’s
deputy leader.
Mr Leitch has stood as a candidate on five
occasions, most recently in Whangarei.
He is the Party’s
finance spokesperson.
Social Credit stood its first
candidate for parliament in 1953, and has stood candidates
in every election since.
