--

The second reading of the Employment Relations Amendment Bill in Parliament scheduled for today demonstrates a new consensus about restoring a much-need balance to employment relations says the PSA.

"The future of work is all about ensuring a balanced employment relationship in the workplace and this legislation is a timely step in that direction," said Glenn Barclay and Kerry Davies, PSA national secretaries.

"It restores protection of workers’ rights that we believe all New Zealanders would consider to be a legal minimum, such as the right to access help and advice from your union.

"This signals that we are moving away from the imbalance caused by having laws in place that damage New Zealanders’ working lives by driving down their working conditions.

"This is a positive law change for all New Zealanders and the future prospects for creating better working lives".
