Napier Candidacy Announcement For 2022 Local Body Elections

Napier Mayor Kirsten Wise

Napier Mayor Kirsten Wise today formally announced her mayoral candidacy for the 2022 local body elections.

“Serving Napier’s citizens as Mayor for the past term has been an honour. Elections are an opportunity to continue engaging with the community, update them on progress and encourage them to vote,” Ms. Wise said.

“It’s been a very busy three years,” Ms. Wise said.” “Achievements this term include the appointment of a new Chief Executive, establishing clean water bores, starting our chlorine-free investment, working with Kainga Ora to build more housing, while retaining our council housing portfolio, setting up the new City Assist safety programme, progressing the design for the return of the library to Station Street and collaborating with the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council and Mana Ahuriri on the Regional Park project to restore the health of our estuary.

But there’s more to be done. We must continue investing in our existing infrastructure and facilities.

My priorities next term, should voters give me the opportunity, is to continue with the investment in our water assets, complete the restoration of the War Memorial, build our new library, progress the aquatic centre redevelopment and the Regional Park project. These are large scale investments which we have been planning throughout this term and I am looking forward to moving into the delivery phase.

Alongside this we must navigate the many national reforms so that our community gets the best results. With so much change at a national level, it’s vital we have continued stability within our community.

I will continue to work tirelessly with elected members and staff, as we have over the past three years, to overcome the challenges of the past and ensure Napier is a safe, resilient and vibrant city,” Ms. Wise said.
