Council Supports Y2K Communication

Christchurch City Council is working with other key Canterbury organisations to support the Y2K Readiness Commission in getting the community ready for the dawn of the new millennium. Christchurch City Council has met with the Canterbury Regional Council, the Canterbury Dialogues Project, and key services such as the Police, Fire Service and Canterbury Health.

The Y2K Readiness Commission's brochure is arriving in Canterbury letterboxes this week and Christchurch City Council is supporting efforts made by the Commission by working to ensure Canterbury is Y2K ready.

"We're working with all the key organisations to identify specific issues related to Canterbury and Christchurch and assist the Y2K Readiness Commission's campaign," said Sam Fisher, Christchurch City Council's representative on the co-ordinating group. "Christchurch and Canterbury organisations are already working together and will look at sending out any relevant messages later in the year," he said.

Christchurch City Council and Canterbury Regional Council have worked with the Canterbury Dialogues Project to develop case studies that can show community organisations how to prepare. These are likely to be available in September.
