Labour has once again proved its commitment to young New Zealanders with the release of its Youth Policy, Young Labour President Moana Mackey said today.

The policy outlines Labour's vision of a secure future for Young New Zealanders, coupled with the policies and initiatives which will see it realised.

"Labour is concerned at the high levels of youth suicide, unemployment and crime, and refuses to allow more young New Zealanders to fall through the cracks in education, health and social welfare.

"Unlike the National Party, Labour views the youth of Aotearoa as a worthy investment, not just an irksome money drain. Young people need a government which will remove barriers, carry them forward, and help them achieve - not endless empty clichés.

"National has no vision for young New Zealanders. Youth Affairs Minister Tony Ryall has been astoundingly ineffective, and obviously treats the portfolio as his lowest priority. I guess if you can't vote, National doesn't care about your problems.

"New Zealand's youth have suffered enough. Under National, this is as good as it gets. Young New Zealanders deserve so much more, and once again, Labour has proved that it is the only party which will deliver," Miss Mackey said.
