Noise Insulation Gets Ok From Marine Safety

1 July 2002

Growing concern about the link between noise pollution and industrial deafness has led a Christchurch company to receive an official 'seal of approval' for its noise insulation products.

Acoustop Multigrade noise insulation has become the first product of its kind to receive official approval from the Marine & Industrial Safety Inspection Services for use in boats under survey, following a series of stringent product safety tests.

Comprehensive testing procedures have been conducted at a number of registered laboratories nationwide to ensure that Acoustop Multigrade complies with accredited international standards across an array of performance and fire rating criteria.

"M&I approval of this unique and very effective noise control product provides safety assurance and peace of mind that product quality and performance are of the highest calibre," says Mike Latimer of Latimer Acoustics Ltd.

Mr Latimer says the growing awareness of the link between noise pollution and industrial deafness is raising concerns for personal safety in environments where excess noise is a problem. He says research has shown it is possible to reduce engine noise by up to 60% by installing Acoustop Multigrade.

"It significantly reduces the risk of hearing damage and improves boat safety by facilitating passenger and crew communication on board," he says.

The company has an aggressive R&D policy to ensure its range remains technologically advanced and innovative, and has a number of ongoing initiatives in conjunction with the University of Canterbury.

Safety certification applies to product AM 6/24BF of the Acoustop Multigrade range.
