Oracle Opens Asia Pacific Data Warehouse in NZ

Oracle Opens Asia Pacific Data Warehouse Centre of Excellence in New Zealand

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, September, 2003 -- Oracle has established a Data Warehouse Centre of Excellence in New Zealand, to service the Asia Pacific region's growing demand for business intelligence (BI) and data warehouse solutions.

New Zealand was picked as a suitable location because of Oracle's local concentration of data warehouse expertise and the recent success Oracle New Zealand has achieved implementing data warehouses at New Zealand Post, Solid Energy, Telecom and others.

"Oracle New Zealand has proven capability that the company wants to leverage across Asia Pacific," said Derek Williams, Executive Vice President, Oracle Asia Pacific. "Boards of directors and their executives are demanding better business intelligence and this is driving demand for Oracle data warehouse solutions across the region, from New Zealand to Greater China, particularly in the telecommunications, utilities and financial services industries," Mr. Williams added.

Richard Cattell, who is relocating from Oracle in Kuala Lumpur to run the centre in New Zealand, said, "Most organisations have data distributed across a variety of separate systems, making it impossible to turn it into information quickly enough for it to make a strategic difference. But with a good data warehouse, the right BI tools and the required know-how they can consolidate their data into one 'version of the truth' and start getting the information they need, when they need it."

The centre's data warehouse specialists work closely with Oracle offices across the Asia Pacific region, augmenting and mentoring those local resources. However, much of the service is provided directly from the New Zealand-based centre using Oracle's Continuous Connection Network (OCCN), which provides a secure and robust environment for Oracle to deliver consulting services remotely, which significantly improves cost-effectiveness.

The centre is currently working on seven data warehouse projects ? five in New Zealand and two in other Asia Pacific countries ? and is evaluating several others.
