A fine start to Labour Weekend but wet on Sunday.
MetService meteorologists are forecasting a fine start to Labour weekend. However, some rain is expected to reach the western areas of the North Island on Saturday night.
On Sunday a cold front rolling in from the Tasman Sea should bring rain to all western areas. This cold front may be preceded by gusty northwest winds with mild conditions in many eastern areas, and followed by southerly winds and showers reaching the deep-south by late Sunday and moving onto the North Island on Labour Day Monday.
"The fine weather on Friday looks good for travelling", commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt, "but it will mean light winds for the start of the HSBC Coastal Classic Yacht Race from Auckland to Russell. And it'll be windy for the NPC final in Wellington on Saturday night."
More details about the weather are available from the web site at www. metservice.com, but at this stage it is thought that no warnings on severe weather will need to be issued for the holiday weekend.
