Northwest winds to rattle the south
MetService meteorologists are forecasting northwest winds to affect southern New Zealand from now until the weekend. A special weather watch has been issued for Southland and Fiordland.
"These winds are expected to bring a long period of wet weather to Fiordland lasting until Sunday", commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt.
"Winds may reach severe gale force in exposed parts of Southland especially on Thursday. Temperatures are forecast to reach the high twenties in Canterbury on Thursday and Friday".
McDavitt went on to say that a fine warm day is forecast for the 'Big Day Out' in Auckland on Friday, and blustery northerlies should visit central areas for Wellington anniversary weekend, with cloudy intervals and some night and morning drizzle on Monday.
