Thundery Weekend

26-May-2005

Thundery Weekend

MetService meteorologists are forecasting a brief period of thunderstorms and squally winds to move onto Northland and Auckland during Friday morning and sweep across Waikato and the Bay of Plenty on Friday afternoon.

"This burst of thundery showers marks the start to a series of fronts moving onto New Zealand from the Tasman Sea over the next few days", commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt.

McDavitt added that a period of vigorous westerly winds and squally thunderstorms is likely to affect western areas on Saturday night and during Sunday. "Colder southwesterly conditions are forecast for early next week bringing some hail and snow."

Maps showing the regions most likely to be affected by Friday's thunderstorms are updated daily on the severe thunderstorm outlook page of the weather warnings section of the www.metservice.com web site.
