Funding confirmed for Bio Commerce Centre

Manawatu’s Bio Commerce Centre (BCC) has received funding from New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) to continue nurturing businesses in the region that have high potential for growth.

NZTE has awarded BCC funding of $225,000 to support start-up technology businesses in the region.

BCC Start-up Manager John Brandeis says “It’s very encouraging to see the government continuing to support innovation and job growth in our region. The money is a boost that will help us continue to lift the performance of more up and coming Manawatu businesses."

NZTE Manager of Incubator Development Richard White says “NZTE’s funding of New Zealand’s innovation centres is proving very successful. We’re supporting BCC because it is home to a number of high growth potential companies with opportunities to make a contribution to the regional and national economy."

BCC is one of seven New Zealand innovation centres that function as business incubators to receive a share of funds from NZTE’s Incubator Support Programme.

The Bio Commerce Centre was established in 2005 to generate economic activity in Manawatu by increasing the commercialisation and development of technology. It does this by: supporting new technology businesses with the potential to produce globally competitive products or services; brokering research collaborations; and promoting Manawatu’s science and technology capabilities to national and international investors and researchers.

The centre is located in Palmerston North’s science and technology precinct among New Zealand's largest concentration of bio-industry scientists and researchers.
