bioSouth promotes Dunedin tech companies at NZBio Conference


Five Dunedin technology-based companies will be exhibiting under the bioSouth banner at the NZBio Conference in Auckland next week.

BioSouth's chairman, Peter Fennessy, says "bioSouth is very proud to be able to showcase some of Dunedin's high-tech businesses at the NZBio conference and demonstrate the strength and quality of research and commercialisation coming out of the region"

The bioSouth booth will feature Otago Innovation Ltd, Pacific Edge Biotechnology Ltd, Biotronics Otago, AbacusBio Ltd and the High Throughput (DNA) Sequencing Service offered by the University of Otago's Anatomy and Structural Biology Department.

Otago Innovation Ltd, the University of Otago's commercialisation arm, will display information about itself and its stable of start-up companies that have evolved out of university research and ideas.

Pacific Edge Biotechnology Ltd will use the bioSouth booth to promote its work in development and commercialisation of diagnostics and prognostics for cancer. The company’s most recent product is for the early detection and monitoring of bladder cancer.

Biotronics Otago provides specialised engineering services for the development of bio-medical devices and research instrumentation. Bruce Partridge from Biotronics will be displaying some of his recent work at the bioSouth booth.

Formed by internationally recognised scientists in 2001, AbacusBio specialises in agribusiness, genetics and biotechnology. Their core business is the innovative application of technology by bridging science and business.

The University of Otago's Anatomy and Structural Biology Department offers a High Throughput Sequencing Service using the GS FLX System (Roche/454). All clients need to supply is high quality DNA and the GS FLX will sequence it to your specification.
