Explore New Zealand's wildlife

Wellington Zoo's newly refurbished nocturnal house will be opening its doors to Zoo visitors this ANZAC day, Friday 25 April, Wellington Zoo's Manager, Visitor Experience Edy McDonald announced today.

'The Twilight will be reminiscent of a typical Kiwi tramping hut, and we have made the journey into the bush more engaging for our visitors. We have also renovated the animals' enclosures to make their habitats more appropriate.'

'Our visitors will be able to explore the new research hut and adventure through the bush to discover New Zealand's native reptiles and birds and they can learn about how they can help protect our amazing wildlife in their backyards,' said Edy.

'We have had feedback from our visitors that it has been difficult to see kiwi in The Twilight. These exciting new changes have resulted in an improved environment for our native reptiles and birds, and have enhanced the viewing opportunities for our visitors," said Edy

'Visitors to the Zoo will still be able to see Tahi, our world famous one-legged kiwi, in The Twilight daily in a new and improved enclosure and learn about how they can help kiwi in the wild.'

'We're opening the Zoo and The Twilight an hour early on Friday, at 8.30am, for our Zoo Crew members, but everyone else will be able to come in and explore when the Zoo opens at the usual time of 9.30am,'said Edy.
