CEO Announced for New Crown Research Institute

Auckland October 10, 2008. The Chairman-designate of the new Crown Research Institute that will be formed on 1 December through the merger of HortResearch and Crop & Food Research, Jim McLean, today announced the appointment of the Chief Executive for the new company.

Mr McLean, currently Chairman of HortResearch, said the new Board was pleased to appoint Peter Landon-Lane as CEO.

Mr Landon-Lane was recently appointed as CEO of HortResearch. He will take up his new position from December 1.

Mr McLean said Mr Landon-Lane's experience in the food industry and trade development in New Zealand, Asia and Europe would be an asset to the new CRI's drive to add value to exports and production of crops and processed foods in New Zealand.

"Peter's international background and his experience in business development in the food industry is a strong fit with our strategy for innovation to build greater value in New Zealand's fruit, crop and seafood industries," said Mr McLean.

"Our stakeholders have high expectations for the new CRI to deliver high quality research that drives market growth. We're looking forward to working with Peter to meet that demand and grow opportunities for New Zealand producers and exporters."

Mr McLean said a key priority for the new CEO was to effectively integrate the existing strategies and operations of Crop & Food Research and HortResearch, using the best from these two entities to create an even better organisation.
