Prue Williams appointed Foundation chief scientist

Dr Prue Williams of Crop & Food Research has been appointed the chief science advisor of the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology.

Announcing the appointment, Foundation chief executive Murray Bain said he was delighted Dr Williams had accepted the position.

“Prue has an impeccable record as a scientist specialising in soils and plant research and research management and has been a member of the Crop and Food senior management team for a number of years,” he said.

“She has an excellent knowledge of the New Zealand science system and the people in it and we are looking forward to her starting with us at the beginning of December.”

Dr Williams is currently the general manager of production research at Crop & Food
Research, responsible for leading and managing many of the institute's science
and business staff.

Dr Williams has a BAgrSci (Hons) from Lincoln University and a PhD in soil science
from Massey University.

She has more than 20 years' research experience in a range of topics relating to sustainable crop and pasture production systems in New Zealand. She has published more than 150 scientific papers, conference papers and reports and has been recently involved in developing international linkages with European research institutes.

She will replace Dr Tricia Harris, the Foundation’s chief science advisor since 2004.
