NIWA welcomes Jim Salinger employment decision

The National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research (NIWA) welcomes the finding of the Employment Relations Authority that Dr Salinger had no case for a personal grievance against his former employer. The Authority determined that NIWA’s actions in dismissing Dr Salinger, and how it acted, were what a fair and reasonable employer would have done in the circumstances.

Dr Salinger was dismissed in April for repeated breaches of NIWA policy.

“It is always disappointing when there is a breakdown in an employment relationship, particularly with a long standing employee, and I am sure there are lessons to be learned on both sides. We would just like to wish Jim all the best in his future endeavours”, said NIWA Chief Executive John Morgan.

NIWA will make no further comment at this time.
