Growth Hormone Study needs healthy adults in Auckland

The University of Auckland’s Human Nutrition Unit and Liggins Institute is looking for healthy adults to participate in a study on myostatin and IGF1 regulation by growth hormone in muscle. The study needs adults of all ages, sedentary or active, and in good health.

Growth hormone levels naturally change with age. Recombinant human growth hormone is commonly prescribed to manage a deficiency, but may also be controversially used by some athletes in an attempt to increase muscle mass and gain an unfair advantage.

During the study, participants will need to have a fasting blood sample taken for assessment of growth hormone levels. Participants will also have one muscle biopsy to assess growth factors such as myostatin and IGF1. The blood and muscle test will take less than one hour.

Participants will need to visit the research team after an overnight fast at the Liggins Institute in Grafton, Auckland to complete the study. This study was designed by research staff at Waikato Hospital.

All information that participants provide will remain strictly confidential and no material that could personally identify any participant will be used in any reports on this research.
