START MEMO NOMINATING-JUSTIFICATION:
Ms. Hassan is the key official of the Maldives
Monetary Authority (MMA) who has been attached to
MMA for over 20 years. She reports directly to the
Vice-Governor who is the Minister of State for
Treasury and the Governor who is the President of
Maldives. Ms. Hassan is one of the comparatively
young women leaders in the public sector in the
Republic of Maldives. Although Ms. Hassan has
visited the U.S. before, she has had a very limited
exposure visiting only Washington, D.C. for training
course at the IMF Institute five years ago.
Since active role of women in the Maldives society
is very essential for its economic and social
development, her participation in this project will
be beneficial to her and to the Maldivian women as a
whole. She will be able to play a greater role in
uplifting of status of women in the Maldives.
