SUBJECT: Turkey Officially Suspends New Quarantine Regs

1. Turkey officially announced the temporary suspension
until July 7, 2003 of new phytosanitary regulations that had
been implemented on January 3, 2003.(Refs A&B) The
announcement was published in the "Official Gazette" on
Tuesday, February 18. The suspension will be retroactive to
January 3, 2003. USDA Quarantine officials had been informed
of the proposed suspension during discussions in Ankara at
the end of January (Ref C).
