1. The Embassy received a fax from the Department
of Fiscal Policy and Economic Affairs of the
Ministry of Finance, Sri Lanka responding to our
request for data required for the Millennium
Challenge Account. All figures are in millions of
Sri Lankan Rupees. Data within parenthesis
indicate deficits. The Ministry of Finance has
used the 2001 Central Bank of Sri Lanka Annual
Report as its data source.

2. Overall budget balance (including grants) as per
Government Finance Statistics published by the IMF.
1999: Rs (76,493)
2000: Rs (119,396)
2001: Rs (146,722)

3. Total Government expenditure on health:
1999: Rs 15,671
2000: Rs 20,698
2001: Rs 18,772

4. Total government expenditure on education.
