DEVELOPMENTS ON ANTI-CONVERSION BILL(S)
---------------------------------------

1. (SBU) FYI. A Buddhist monk MP presented a draft anti-
conversion bill to Parliament on July 21 as a private
member's bill. The Buddhist Affairs Ministry is pursuing
its own version of an anti-conversion bill. In a July 26
conversation with poloff, the Legal Draftsperson discussed
the legislative process for both bills. It seems that it
will be quite a while before either bill comes to Parliament
for a vote. We will report front-channel tomorrow on the
process of the bills, and opposition to them. (POL)
