SUBJECT: MAPUTO - ADDITION OF DIGITS TO ALL LANDLINE PHONE
NUMBERS

1. As of 01 August 2005 TDM (Telecommunications de
Mozambique) has announced a new land line telephone dialing
structure. This change has been introduced in order for
Mozambique to be in compliance with SADC standards. These
standards require 8 digits for all telephone numbers. This
change affects ALL land line telephone numbers in
Mozambique. All Embassy internal extensions and IVG numbers
are unchanged, however all Direct Dial number will have
digits changed.

2. Changes are as follows:
Example of original number for Maputo
258(Country code) 01 (City Code) 492797 (telephone number)
New Example for Maputo
258(Country Code) 21 (City Code) 492797 (telephone number)
258-21-492797 (New Embassy Main Switchboard Number)
With the addition of digits it is now necessary to dial all
of the 8 digits corresponding to each city and number.
The following is the list of all main provinces within
Mozambique and their new corresponding City Code additional
digits
Maputo 21 Gaza (Chokwe) 281
Gaza (Xai-Xai) 282 Inhambane 293
Sofala 23 Manica 251
Zambezia 24 Tete 252
Nampula 26 Niassa 271
Cab Delgado 272

3. This change is effective 01 August 2005. All operations
and communications centers should make a note of this change
to all Maputo contact phone numbers.

4. With Regards.
