SUBJECT: SPAIN ON THE HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE RESOLUTION

Poloff delivered reftel demarche to MFA Deputy Director
General for the United Nations Juan Manuel Gonzalez de
Linares. He reiterated the informaton in reftel, that Spain
is already a co-sponsor of the Holocaust Remembrance
Resolution, and he added that they had been in extensive
contact with the Israeli Embassy in Madrid on the subject. He
noted that the Spanish government has already set aside a
national Holocaust remembrance holiday - January 27 - and is
a strong supporter of the UN initiative.
