program for three (3) Peruvian Archaeologists/Curators in
Archaeological Projects, Victor Armando "PIMINCHUMO," Carmen
Cecilia "GAMARRA," and Dulce Maria "DELGADO"

2. We request program dates on March 20-30, 2006.

1A) JUSTIFICATION FOR NOMINATION:
This ten-day program will provide a greater insight into the
protection and preservation of earth conservation structures
and collections management.

1B) POST'S RECOMMENDATIONS FOR U.S. PROGRAM:
During the program the following topics will be amplified:
-- Architectural preservations: research, technical study,
analysis, and preservation of earth
structures/architectures;
-- Restoration: new restoration trends in the field of earth
architecture;
-- Preventive conservation: new methods applied to historic
buildings (focused on earth structures) to prevent
deterioration;
-- Public outreach: educational programs and advocacy
methods aimed at raising public awareness of cultural
heritage issues;
-- Collections management: research, technical study,
analysis, preservation and registration of museum
collections specifically related to site museums; and
-- Museum administration: the relationship between museums
and the community and the goals and challenges of sharing
knowledge and resources.

The program will address the following themes in each city:

WASHINGTON, D.C.:
-- The U.S. government's role in heritage preservation;
-- The role of NGO's in heritage protection;
-- Collections management, public outreach programs, and
preventive conservation at the Smithsonian museums;
-- Collection management at Dumbarton Oaks.

Metropolitan Museum of Art;
-- Networks of museums and museum professionals;
-- Museum Studies/Conservation Center of the Institute of
Fine Arts, NYU, Professor Glenn Wharton.

Conservation Institute;
-- Consultations with earth conservation experts,
particularly on the Chan Chan experience;
-- Experiences in earth conservation in the U.S. and other
