SUBJECT: MOZAMBIQUE: DEMARCHE RESPONSE ON UNGA THIRD
COMMITTEE THANK YOU AND PLENARY REMINDER
REF: STATE 221401
On December 13, Deputy Econ/Pol Chief discussed reftel
talking points with Faruque Faquira, Head of Department,
Directorate for International Organizations and Conferences,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Faquira said that he was
pleased with the outcome of recent UNGA Third Committee
country resolutions and stated that the GRM would continue to
work with other countries to defend human rights through this
mechanism. On Sudan, he acknowledged that the issue was
difficult to reconcile, especially for African nations, but
indicated that Mozambique would continue to vote as a bloc
with its African neighbors on issues dealing directly with
the continent.
