SUBJECT: BRASILIA COUNTRY CLEARANCE REQUEST - DR. SUZANNE WESTMAN,
DR. ARISTIDES BARBOSA AND MRS. ERIN JOHNSON
1. Embassy Brasilia requests country clearance for Dr. Suzanne
Westman, Dr. Aristides Barbosa and Mrs. Erin Johnson for August 03,
2006.
2. The purpose of this visit is to view access to care and HIV
testing services for high risk migratory groups along the corridor
between Guyana and Brazil; to conduct a joint (CDC GAP Guyana - CDC
GAP Brazil)preliminary field visit to the area. Informal meetings
would be held with Regional Health authorities to get an
understanding of their view of the need for outreach and provision
of services. The CDC GAP Guyana Office would travel with a letter of
introduction from the Guyana Minister of Health to Guyana Regional
Medical authorities in the border area. Similarly the CDC GAP Brazil
Office would have a letter of introduction from the Brazilian
Regional Medical authorities. No formal interview of high risk
populations or patient data would be collected at this first level
of proposal development. A CDC vehicle from Georgetown would meet
the Braslia team in Boa Vista, Brazil for the drive back to Lethem,
Guyana.
3. If concurrence is granted, Dr. Suzanne Westman and party would be
picked up by the CDC Guyana team in Boa Vista and propose to drive
from Boa Vista to Lethem in CDC Guyana official vehicle DPL 5-28,
Thursday, August 03, 2006 and return to Boa Vista on Friday, August
4, 2006 with return from Boa Vista to Braslia on Saturday, August
5, 2006.
