SUBJECT: UNESCO: UPDATE ON RATIFICATION OF SIX CONVENTIONS


1. To date, only Canada, Mauritius and, most recently, Mexico, have
deposited at UNESCO their Instruments of Ratification regarding the
2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of
Cultural Expressions.

2. In a series of written communications we have recently received,
UNESCO's Director-General has informed U.S. Mission UNESCO and other
delegations of the deposit at UNESCO of Instruments of Ratification
(Acceptance, Accession or Approval) regarding the following
conventions:

2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural
Heritage:
Belgium
Bolivia
Bulgaria
Cyprus
Estonia
Ethiopia
Hungary
Iran
Jordan
Luxembourg
Moldova
Nicaragua

2005 Convention against Doping in Sport:
Australia
Monaco
Norway

Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as
Waterfowl Habitat adopted at Ramsar in 1971, and amended in 1982 and
1987:
Cameroon

Convention against Discrimination in Education (Paris, 14 December,
1960):
Jamaica

Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and
Natural Heritage adopted in Paris on 16 November 1972:
Guinea-Bissau
