SUBJECT: METI ROTATIONS YIELD NO SURPRISES


1. (SBU) METI,s annual rotations, announced on July 4 and
effective July 10, yielded no surprises. As expected,
current Economic and Industrial Policy Bureau Director
General (DG) Takao Kitabata will succeed Hideji Sugiyama as
Administrative Vice Minister. Trade Policy Bureau DG
Toshiaki Kitamura will take over for International Affairs
Vice Minister Kazumasa Kusaka. Sugiyama and Kusaka will both
retire as will Nobuyori Kodaira, DG of the Agency for Natural
Resources and Energy (ANRE). The rest of the change in line
up is as follows, with previous positions in brackets:
