1. (SBU) PolChief discussed ref A demarche regarding the
August 31 Stockholm Conference with Deputy Director of the
MFA Department of European, American and Oceanic Affairs
Saeed Rashed Al-Zaabi on August 26. Al-Zaabi noted that UAE
deliveries of humanitarian supplies to Lebanon continued
daily and that the country would remain engaged. He also

appreciated Ref A summary of U.S. commitments to Lebanon's
reconstruction.
2. (SBU) Al-Zaabi said the UAE would likely participate in
Stockholm on the 31st, yet could not commit to a particular
level of representation. He inquired about the composition
of the U.S. delegation and what level of seniority was
anticipated from other countries.
3. (SBU) Also on August 26, Abdul Khaleq bin Dhaeer,
Director o the Office of the Assistant Under Secretary for
International Cooperation at the MFA, told Acting EconChief
that the MFA would be pleased to participate in the Stockholm
conference if invited. He inquired whether the UAE should
expect to receive an invitation from the Government of Sweden
or some other body.
4. (SBU) Action request: Post would appreciate information
in order to respond to MFA queries in paras 2 and 3 regarding
level of USG representation and sponsoring organizations
likely to issue invitations. Relaying this information
promptly to the MFA would help the UAEG organize an
appropriate delegation. End action request.
